Overview
The partner route of the Family visa is for married couples, civil partners, couples who have lived together for at least 2 years, and fiancé(e)s who will marry in the UK within 6 months of arriving.
It is one of the most evidence-heavy UK applications. We help you meet the financial requirement, organise your relationship evidence and avoid the common mistakes that lead to refusals.
Who can apply
The main requirements. A counsellor will check your situation in detail.
- You and your partner are both 18 or over
- Your partner is British, Irish, settled in the UK or has protection status
- You are married, in a civil partnership, have lived together for at least 2 years, or are engaged to marry in the UK
- Combined income of at least £29,000 a year (or enough savings instead)
- English at level A1 or above for your first application
- You intend to live together permanently in the UK
Documents you’ll need
A typical list. We’ll give you a personal checklist in your consultation.
- Valid passport
- Marriage or civil partnership certificate (if applicable)
- Evidence of your relationship, such as joint bills, tenancy or bank statements (less than 4 years old)
- Your partner’s passport or proof of settled status
- Payslips, employer letter and bank statements proving income
- English language test result
- Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate

- Up to 2 years 9 months, then extendable (6 months for fiancé(e)s)

- £2,064 from outside the UK (£1,407 inside the UK), plus the Immigration Health Surcharge (£1,035 per year)
